In 2014, Glasgow will host 71 countries and territories and more than 6,500 athletes and officials across 17 sports at the XX Commonwealth Games. Glasgow 2014 will be the biggest multi-sports event that Scotland has ever hosted and is already bringing significant opportunities and benefits for the people and communities of Glasgow and Scotland. The Scottish Government and its many partners are committed both to the delivery of an outstanding Games, on time and on budget, as well as the creation of a lasting legacy for the people and communities of Scotland.
Glasgow City Council has also developed its plans for bringing a long lasting legacy to the city and people of Glasgow. To find out more about the city's plans please visit Glasgow City Council.
The Games will be a catalyst for significant change. But the Games have always been about more than the delivery of an outstanding sporting event. A games legacy for Scotland, which was officially launched on 1st September 2009, sets out how we and our partners aim to deliver a lasting and positive legacy from Glasgow 2014 and other major events, such as the London 2012 and the Ryder Cup in 2014. It is based around the four themes: Active, Connected, Sustainable and Flourishing. Whatever your interest, the Games have something to offer. The message is clear: whatever your interest, get involved!
